Week 29: Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw’s walk with Vogue magazine

In Week 29 of the Little Black Dress (LBD) Project I explore the wintry options of covering up my LBD for the commute to work. Check in each day this week to see how I top things off with a different style of hat as worked by style setters like noughties TV fashion darling, Carrie Bradshaw as played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

There’s a video floating around on the internets where I profess my admiration for Sex and the City stylist, Patricia Field. The work that she did to showcase the personalities of four very different women at various stages of their lives, using clothes, won awards. So it’s no surprise that one of the celeb-stylings that came to mind when thinking about work hat-spiration came from Patricia Field’s styling of Carrie Bradshaw (as played by her sarah-ness, SJP) in the first Sex and the City film:

Carrie Bradshaw as played by SJP does the walk-of-shame with her shame-causing issue of Vogue magazine.

Now SJP wears more of a pork-pie hat style which frankly rocks on her longer shaped face but does not suit my round face, at all! However I persevered and tried on a heap of other hat styles which like finding the right pair of jeans, one should do when trying to find the right hat. What do you think of the hat I settled on to try emulate SJP’s look?

Today’s celeb-inspired hat-style was achieved with this tucked cloche by Scala, available from a selection at Scally and Trombone.

Emulating Carrie Bradshaw as played by SJP in a tucked cloche hat…

I’m carrying a copy of Treadlie, a magazine for bicycle lovers interested in bike culture, fashion and design. This issue (Issue 07) features some of my photographs from a Melbourne Tweed Ride that I took on a weekend trip to Rutherglen which frankly I think is pretty ace!:

A happy stroll with issue 7 of Treadlie magazine: available in all good news agencies now!

What do you think of today’s hat style?

As for my tribute work ensemble, I’ve layered a Country Road wool blazer and faux-fur Alannah Hill scarf over my Bento LBD and accessorised with Camper “Twins”, my own fingerless leather gloves and tucked cloche hat from Scally & Trombone in Melbourne.
