Welcome to 2015!
I hope that you had a restful break and are ready for a fabulous new year of getting sh$t done. I for one am very excited that it’s back-to-work week as it means that there will be lots of you about for me to try and photograph. Following from the survey I ran before Christmas, you’d like to see more street style here – so I’ll be working hard over the next few weeks (and not to mention some interstate and international trips later this year!) to gather you stylish peeps all here in the one place!
So thankfully I can’t say that I’m feeling the back-to-work blues but that could be because I’m my own boss and I quite like the work that I get to do these days. That’s not to say that I don’t recall the feeling. In fact I remember returning from an overseas holiday and finding myself staring blankly at the photocopier when suddenly the thought “WHAT THE HE*7 AM I DOING HERE?” boomed through my head. I immediately got sweaty and started pacing around to try and breathe. Getting back to my desk was the last thing I felt like doing so thank goodness for my crew of work friends who helped me get through the day…week…years even. Until I worked out what I wanted to do at least 😉
If you are feeling the Mondayitis or back-to-work blues, try one of the following to alleviate symptoms:
- catch up with a friend. Whether it’s a gab around the water cooler or a planned escape for coffee, chocolate or tea or lunch with friends, there are few things better than feeling the blues together!
- make a date. Whether it’s for another holiday (yay!) or dinner at a new venue in town – there’s nothing like having a date to look forward to! Some of my girls and I are planning to catch a NGV “Art After Dark” evening – one of our favourite after-work events that I can highly recommend especially with the museum’s major fashion exhibition of Jean Paul Gaultier!
- shop online! Who else loves a cheeky spot of e-browsing? The internationals have some of the best e-sales that are worth working through: ASOS, J.Crew and Whistles are three I frequent to find stylish steals for men and women alike. And those of us in air-conditioned offices can wear the goods straight away which means any “wintry” purchases will get extra mileage! I’m personally interested in further streamlining my work wardrobe this year with relaxed shirts and easy knits to layer with cropped pants and even update with a new cut of blazer. What are you looking forward to wearing to work this year?
As you can see, the reason why I *enjoyed* going to work was to see my friends and what everyone was wearing to work! Eventually it was through starting this blog that I worked out what I loved doing and one of those things is photographing stylish workers to give us ideas on how we can add personality to our work attire! So without further ado, check out the first look of the year:
Michela wears pieces from some fabulous local labels (currently having sales now too!): Gorman shoes, Witchery top and Saba blazer, Georg Jensen ‘daisy’ earrings, Cartier Tank Solo watch and that fabulous skirt that is a perfect mix of “somber corporate” and creative ruffle is by one of my personal favourites ALPHA60.
I haven’t heard back from Emily but y’all know how much I appreciate a Little Black Dress and teamed with ballet flats makes for a comfortable and chic ensemble that is easy to throw on in the morning.
The girls work near the Paris end of Collins street so I asked them for tips for their tips for good spots to lunch in the area. “Chin Chin if feeling indulgent or Fonda or Bowery to Williamsburg are great too.” Thanks girls!
Long-time BusiChics may recognise Michela from this post – sorry that I got the spelling of your name wrong in that one, M – good to be able to rectify that with this post!
What’s the best thing about work for you? And don’t worry, you are allowed to LOVE your job! 🙂
