Runway Inspiration: 2015 VAMFF Premium Runway Shows to your Wardrobe

The 2015 Virgin Australian Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) Premium Runway shows provided a showcase of the Autumn/Winter styles rolling into stores now. Get yourself a coffee and sit back for your front-row look at the runway shows to help inspire your updates and styling for the cosy season:

Suit-spiration

The brands showing this year are not known for making conservative boardroom suits and this year was no exception. However those looking for stylish addititions to their workwear can take comfort in the may ways that the suit was made stylish and more lifestyle. Think suits cut so wide and relaxed that you might wish to pair them with sneakers to brunch on the weekend or co-ordinated ensembles so beautiful that they would take you seamlessly from work to art show launch…

Relaxed suiting at Bassike. Pair with a tshirt and sneakers in your downtime or work the blazer separately with jeans on Smart Casual Day and with heels and blouse on more formal ones.

The artful suit at ALPHA60 to take you from work to gallery show. This also reminded me of fabric created for Raf Simons first Haute Couture show for Christian Dior as shown in the film Dior and I, out this Thursday.

KAPOW! I bet that you weren't expecting this one! It is more colourful than anything I've ever seen in a corporate boardroom but a great look for casual creatives looking to add some polish to their workwear.

KAPOW! I bet that you weren’t expecting this one! This Gorman ensemble (which I believe also comes in a blue option) is more colourful than anything I’ve ever seen in a corporate boardroom but a great look for casual creatives looking to add some polish to their workwear. And psst see the backview of the gorgeous model walking in the background – that my BusiChics is the other reason why I avoid culottes.

Suits from Bianca SpenderShakuhachi and Cameo had a 70s vibe that would look great with undone hair while Scanlan and Theodore continued to show milano knit alternatives that I recommend.

Style inspiration

Runway stylists are challenged to create ensembles that capture the audience’s attention. Sometimes it’s by creating a highly-wearable/functional outfit, othertimes it’s sensational but “more runway than real life” – sometimes it’s a genius combination of the two. Here are some looks that are bubbling in my subconscious as inspiration for styling up this Autumn/Winter.

Prints

Prints add interest to any outfit and these ones were some of the best on show IMO-

Maternity chic

Are you expecting and would like some fabulous frocks to rock? When we featured VAMFF Cultural Executive, Alana Kushnir, in the new style diary section, she made mention of brands where she spotted such things:

Menswear

I didn’t make it to the men’s show but here are some images from Lucas Dawson Photography to give you a look at the offerings:

    1. Great post, Cheryl! I am loving Kloke and Bul’s collections, especially Kloke’s colour palette. Those shoes from Alpha60 are so much fun! I love menswear, especially Vanishing Elephant. Those trousers are excellent.
