Is it just me or are there lots of great people around doing interesting things?
I don’t think that you need to kick your day-job to be interesting and from personal experience, starting a blog is one way to start exploring things that you’re interested in. Today’s BusiChic is a textile designer and product developer by day and in her free-time works on her fashion and design blog, promoting Australian designers and artists. She is Luciana Corrales of the Luci Lilt blog and I think that she has one of the best smiles going around!:

How do you describe your workwear style?
Being in a creative field my workplace is fairly casual, although not too casual…. jeans are strictly forbidden!
I suppose I would describe my style as smart casual. I like to wear a lot of skirts (not too short as I’m often picking fabrics up and down, leaning over checking colours etc), and I like to dress up my outfits with accessories. I love heels but shoes have to be comfortable as I’m constantly moving around. I love Gorman for a good stylish but comfortable mid-heel!
Being a textile designer, I of course love colour and pattern, so occasionally, I’ll be wearing something a bit more daring, but my work staples are mostly made of neutrals, like black, navy, and grey.
What are some of your go-to outfits for:
(1) day in the office – Although a large chunk of my time is spent on the computer, I do tend to move around a lot during the day, therefore comfortable shoes are an absolute must! Generally I like to wear breathable, natural fabrics in loose and comfortable cuts so I have the freedom to move around without restrictions.
(2) important meetings – Clean, and ironed garments that you feel confident in. I like an interesting shape , perhaps a crisp shirt or a structured dress…that and a swipe of lipstick.
(3) your desk-to-drink chic outfit – I think a good quality black dress is an absolute must for desk-to drink chic. Something that is comfortable and appropriate for work, can easily be made more party friendly with a change into heels and a statement necklace before you head to Friday night drinks.
Your favourite labels for workwear?
Gorman is a fairly consistent label in my workwear outfits. They use great quality materials and have a good mix of staples and fun patterns.
Life with Bird is another Australian label which I love. They always have great pieces that can be mixed and matched for work and play.
And for a quick trend-fix Cos never disappoints.
Lady you glow – please tell us what products help you do this!
I cannot go past Aesop for my skincare products, it is the one luxury I cannot live without. Their products smell so amazing and just the thought of using them encourages me to make sure I take all my make up off at night! Their “B Triple C facial Balancing Gel” is especially divine! It’s definitely a luxury treatment, but totally worth every penny as it leaves my skin, balanced, dewy and soft.
In terms of makeup- I spent years trying to find the perfect foundation for my skin, and have finally found my match in “By Terry Cover Expert foundation” , applied with the “Hourglass multi purpose blush brush” it gives the right amount of coverage without looking caked on…seriosuly this brush is one of the best beauty purchases I’ve ever made. It makes application super quick and produces a seamless finish.
I also absolutely love a bold bright lip, usually by Nars or M.A.C…with this outfit I am wearing “Flat out Fabulous” by M.A.C
Share a recipe! Maybe it’s your favourite breakfast to power up your work day, a yummy lunch you love or easily whipped up dinner!
A quick meal that I’ve been dying to try is this delicious looking Sushi Salad by Eat Drink Shout.
If I’m in a rush in the mornngs, I usually pop by Barry and pick up one of their absolutely delicious (and healthy) breakfast salads to get my day started on the right foot….they make the best coffee too!
Luci has started a personal style project on her blog chronicling her efforts to “build her dream wardrobe one garment at a time” and the above outfit is one of the looks that she’s put forward to date. Check out #liltblogbacktobasics especially if like me you enjoy having a squiz in the wardrobes of other folk!
