“Without art, the crudeness of reality would make life unbearable.” – George Bernard Shaw
Sometimes I worry that focussing the camera lens simply on what people wear to work is petty and superficial. Then I come across perspectives like the one above and I’m reminded that there is a purpose.
There are lots of us who, leisure time nothwithstanding, enjoy the opportunities we have to bring our creativity to our work day. This could be in the work that we do or in how we present ourselves “simply” in what we wear. I’d be interested to know – how many of us do work that we can – and are happy to – show off to the world? While I think that there are absolutely times when it helps to have a simple no-brainer work look to fall back on, sometimes it’s nice to show some darn personal flair. We are not robots.
We are multifaceted and interesting human beings and I feel grateful for whatever little part I can play in reminding us that we are all responsible for making life more bearable. Whether it’s in the way that we behave towards one another, through the work we do or heck, what we wear.
Here are a few individuals I’ve come across recently who I’m celebrating for contributions to colour and interest on the grey streets of Auckland!
