It’s Friday so you have got this week in the bag! To mark this milestone, each week BusinessChic shares the newest bag and accessory lines to slip into your work wardrobe!
Fashion geek alert! I have this memory of visiting the iconic Melburnian independent fashion store, Alice Euphemia, (which BusiChic understands is currently evolving) when I first set eyes on a Deadly Ponies bag. Its shape was strikingly simple, its hue was a deep and vibrant blue but then I found it had a dark and practical twin! Their leather was so soft, supple and yet durable; bags of undeniably high quality but I couldn’t choose a colour! Sadly I missed out on both bags and joined countless others on visits to Alice waiting for new ponies to arrive…
This season Deadly Ponies celebrates its milestone tenth anniversary with its Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Decandant
“Decandant developed from a desire to wrap up everything we have achieved and tie it off with a celebratory ribbon.” – Liam Bowden, creator and founder of Deadly Ponies.
Deadly Ponies was founded against the trend during a time where local leather manufacturers were closing down. Creator and founder Liam Bowden believed that consumers respected and desired quality local products. Early pieces were hand-sewn from leather scraps lovingly recovered from the rubbish bins of local tanneries while hardware was sourced from the local shipbuilding industry and today. In realising his vision, Bowden reivigorated an industry and created one of New Zealand’s most valuable labels.
The collection features styles that pay homage to the history of the brand while some new shapes and colourways make a subtle reference to sport luxe design, indicating the future direction of Deadly Ponies as a lifestyle brand. The colour selection was inspired by photographer Franco Fontana’s virtuoso interplay of colour, Forest, Amber, Mist and Klein Blue.
Whether you are looking for a minimalist over-the-shoulder bag, playful coin purse or timeless carry-all, this is one range to seriously consider the next time you are looking for a luxury bag under $1000.
Those who are in need of good basics could start with the classic mist or black versions (available on the site) while those of you who welcome colour are very well looked after with these vibrant options. Whatever you do, do not err like I did in the past and take so long to decide that you end up missing out!
If you ever find yourself in Auckland, make sure that you visit one of the Deadly Ponies boutiques in either Newmarket or Ponsonby!
