The Spring Racing Carnival is on in Melbourne and it’s one of the prettiest events on the social calendar when carparks, ladies and gents alike get all fancy for what is a fun day of peope-watching and socialising. In terms of dress codes, it is a rarity. See with the casualisation of many workplaces and dresscodes for special events like weddings, it’s not often that men have a real chance to get really dressed up from top to toe.
If you (or your gent) are open to the idea of a suit but don’t wish to spend too much; check out Target’s collection which includes five tailored and limited edition two piece suits priced at $99, helping Australian men look the part throughout the entire Spring Carnival season. The range features three great fashion suits in new spring colours, blue, light grey and slate blue, with both a black and a navy option available in either a tailored and slim fit trouser, for those who prefer to play it safe.
Target has also expanded its offering of Limited Edition Australian Wool Blend suits – which now includes a dark charcoal and textured navy colourway – with Australian Wool Blend Jackets priced at an affordable $119, and Australian Wool Blend trousers at $59.
Donny Galella, Target Ambassador and celebrity fashion stylist, is excited to see the affordable collection land in stores after many years of witnessing fashion faux pas first-hand at the races.
“There’s really no excuse to be caught in a baggy suit anymore. It’s now easier than ever for guys to look the part at the races, by keeping it simple in a stylish, clean and well-fitting suit.”
Men also have the option of dressing up the grey and black suits with an additional vest available at only $39 – creating one of the most must have looks of the season for stylish men. Tailored shirting comes in at no more than $39 for Australian Cotton shirts – ranging from ditsy print shirts, through to bold tattersal checks, textured pastel pink and classic white tailored fit shirts.
Worried that every man will be sporting the same suit? We asked Galella to share his picks from the collection and styling tips:
How can men set their look apart from others at the race?
Men can have a bit of fun with their spring races outfits by playing with prints, which continue to be a really big trend this season. We will see lots of guys doing a “print clash” for example, pairing a check shirt with a polka dot print tie and a strip pocket square. The trick to pulling this look off is ensuring you have at least one common colour in each of your prints.
Guys can also wear co-ordinates, for example, you can wear a grey suit jacket, some black pants, a white shirt and a tie – you don’t have to always wear a suit to the races. Hats are also a really fun accessory and the perfect way to top off your outfit. Ideally choose one made from straw or fabric, which are best suited to the warmer weather. Embracing accessories like lapel pins, tie pins, fun socks, sunglasses and watches are all ways to add your own personal touch to your outfit.
Which suit from the new Target range would you select for the financially-savvy gent looking to get bang-for-his buck and buy a suit for the races and the office?
The $99 limited edition two-piece suit is the perfect choice for the man who wants to get the most bang for his buck. The range features three great fashion suits in, blue, light grey and slate blue, with both a black and a navy option available in either a tailored and slim fit trouser. Men also have the option of dressing up the grey and black suits with an additional vest available at only $39. I’ve never seen such a well-tailored suit offered at such a great price, so stock up for the office and even for a casual look. Team the suit jacket with a tee or some chinos for the perfect smart casual outfit.
What about looks for men who are not used to wearing suits?
Easy done – guys can team the suit jacket with a collared shirt or t-shirt and some chinos, producing a polished, smart and more casual look. As the weather warms up, jackets or blazers paired with a tee and dress shorts will be on trend and is yet another way you can wear the suit jacket.
Target’s $99 suit range and other Spring Racing attire is available online at www.target.com.au, and in approximately 147 stores across Australia.
