Summer in the City

I’ve just googled all of the lyrics for this Regina Spektor track  (same title as this post) and come to realise that while the title is sunshiney, the lyrics are definitely not.. so in future I shall refrain from humming ‘cleavage cleavage cleavage’ as happily as I have been…

Summer in the City - Regina Spektor chose to dwell on the dark side... I on the otherhand..

I digress, the only thing that those featured in my Summer [weather] in the City Series will have in common with the so-titled Spektor ditty, is the title, because it sure feels like it right now … If you’re reading this later in the week when it’s forecast to rain… I hope these photos provide you with nice memories of sunshine days past/ help you toprepare for the more that will surely come because this is Melbourne town we’re talking about… We’ve got some rather classy folk in this line-up – ladies, three fabulous dresses pictured here – simply pop on a cardigan for the office (more conservative environments will have the ‘no-shoulder’ rule but also to shelter you from OTT airconditioning!) and you’ve got the perfect ensemble to take you from office to drinks. Gents, I thought it’d be tricky to find stylish blokes in this sweltering heat but I think we’ll all agree that Luke holds his own here quite nicely… enjoy!

Right now, brollies are just for decor..

I spotted Nella in one of my favourite shopping precincts in Melbourne – you know… that iconic Melbourne building, on the corner of Swanston Street & Flinders Lane stocked full with iconic Melbourne stores… So anyway, I was hot and dusty, on my way to meet a certain redhead girlfriend for lunch when Nella breezed into view in her fresh white tailored dress and punchy accessories in fabulous textures.

A great look - loving the gorgeous smile with the brightly coloured clutch against a tailored summer dress

Loving the polished peep toes... yes, pun intended

Describe your work dress style Contemporary business wear and polished.

Favourite shops for workwear I am a fan of Boutiques, and often purchase from Filly & Mare in Middle Park. Also have some great pieces from TL Wood (Prahan) and Saba is always reliable for workwear.

Most hardworking item of clothing in your workrobe Black pants.

Skincare or makeup that performs well for you Aesop is great and so reasonably priced. Aveda haircare and lipsticks, Estee Lauder has great mascaras.

Your favoured coffee source or lunch/dinner/drink venue Favourite coffee is St Ali’s. Current favourite lunch venue is Cafe Vue on St Kilda Road. Favourite dinner/drink venue is Lina’s Wine Bar in Albert Park. There are so many in Melbourne, hard to mention all.

What a great dress to take you from office to sunset drinks… and I’m loving the matchy matchy with the printed dress and shoes – delish! Top with a cardigan for Contemporary Business Wear..

There's nothing like a good print to add interest to an outfit.. and I like the additional ruffle embellisment here

Blokes, if you didn’t know this already, because I certainly didn’t… all my friends keep telling me that shoes are the way to judge a guy…  If that’s new to you, don’t worry.. I’m still learning too… I myself just don’t seem to register shoes of the masculine variety (come on, have you seen my shoes?) So particular snaps must go to Luke for capturing my attention. Admittedly it was the hat that first caught my eye- a gentleman with a hat in summer – how lovely! But when I did remember to look at his shoes, I was well-impressed with this well-mannered but personality-packed take on Smart Casual.

hat Tardan (Mexico City) shirt Clemente Talarico jeans Nudie Jeans shoes John Fluevog.

Blokes – what do your shoes say about you? Bright blue laces add character to nicely distressed brown shoes…

Most hardworking accessory or item of clothing in your workrobe My black Trippen shoes. Comfortable and sturdy.

Skincare that performs well for you I use Aesop almost entirely. The parsley seed antioxidant serum is particularly good in summer.

Coffee stop? I usually grab my coffee on Carlisle St. Batch, Midali and Wall Two 80 are all good choices.

And finally, this is a very dear friend of mine.. and not just because she’s dating my brother! Hannah has had my back from way back and I know that because she makes me go to yoga, swim and ride her bike because I haven’t had time to fix mine… I love this shot of Hannah taken on a warm summer’s day in the ‘Staff Only’ section of a favourite rooftop venue…I love this dress- very cute neckline and  lovely ruffle detail – all in gorgeous materials. Perfect for a Smart Casual office environment (or Contemporary Business Wear if pairing with a cardi!).  Unfortunately as we are not staff at said venue, I was too busy freaking out that we were going to get in trouble and forgot to take detailed shots of her gorgeous accessories – she has this amazing ring… anyhow, this is also Hannah’s birthday week – so my darling, Happy Birthday! I hope you’re having a great week and see you on Friday! xox
