Guest Post | Ask The Beauty Hunter: Working Girl

I’m interested in skincare and cosmetics that work well in the office so I like to ask business chic ladies and gents what products work for them. Recently I’ve been on the look out myself for beauty buys that perform but are also good for my skin and planet- hey, I like to multitask! However rather than putting myself through the wringer, I’ve gone and consulted Melinda Ayre aka The Beauty Hunter for her well-honed tips for beauty eco buys for busy women in the office and have no fear gents, performing prods for you are coming soon! — so without further ado, it’s over to Melinda, The Beauty Hunter and make sure you scroll down and see her special offer for BusiChics!

That polished girl in the office is giving you the pip. She seems to move seamlessly from runway to realway walking that fine stiletto line of not too sexy, not too conservative. How does she do it? Here are some eco beauty buys for the modern city girl to turn some heads and get one up the ladder!

1. Saving face
Always prime so make-up stays until clock off. We love: Inika Certified Organic Pure Primer, $59.95, (pic 1) a soothing formula with shea butter, avocado and apricot to create a silky canvas for make-up. Massage into skin and follow with Inika Certified Organic Liquid Mineral Foundation, $59.95. Perfect for air-conditioned environments this foundation covers imperfections with flawless radiance and regenerates skin with cocoa butter and calendula. Visit www.inikacosmetics.com

TIP: Use easy-to-apply neutrals like toffee and peach says Napoleon Perdis to get classic working girl wow.

2. Taupe it over
Tailored taupe eye shadow is definitely having its fashion moment. Neutral shadows are classic for work and you can change your lip colour from nude to brights through the week depending on your getup. Try rose beige, classic crimson, fuchsia or deep berry on lips. For nudes we love: Ere Perez Natural Rosehip Oil Lipbar in Nude or Me, $19.95, (pic 2) www.ereperez.com These barely there lipsticks melt in for a hint of colour. For eco-brights we love: Phyt’s Organic Make-up Lipstick, $44, 1300 656 627. This certified organic lippie has natural colour pigments and jojoba for a creamy finish. (9 shades) Eyeshadow we love: YoungBlood Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow Quad in Timeless, visit www.youngbloodmineralcosmetics.com.au
3. Desk essentials. I once left a peach on my desk overnight and it aged ten years by morning. Don’t let the air-conditioning sap every ounce of moisture from your body. Hydrate whenever you think of it with a nutrient-rich spritz and slather on hand cream. We love: Super by Dr Nicholas Perricone Second Skin and Super by Dr Nicholas Perricone Detox Elixir (pic 3), both $44.95, www.kitcosmetics.com.au

3. Super stylin’

To pull your hair together into a polished, express style each morning you need some sure-fire hairstyles up your sleeve. Here are three office quickies for the season:

1. The sleek pony. This hairstyle gives an instant facelift, it works on second day hair and it won’t move all day. Apply a setting lotion and blow-dry hair straight; brush over and over into a smooth pony positioning tail just below your crown and above your eye line. Take one tendril of hair from pony and wrap around elastic for a polished finish. We love: Kusco-Murphy Setting Lotion, $19.95, (pic 4) Available from www.beautyhunter.com.au

2. The side braid. A creative-type favourite, it’s edgy, feminine but still groomed. Perfect for Friday hair: when you unwind plait late afternoon you have tousled waves for after work drinks. Spritz texturiser through hair. Pull hair to one side just below ear and plait loosely, securing with elastic. Pull a few pieces of hair free for movement. We love: David Babaii Bohemian Beach Spray, $23.70, www.adorebeauty.com.au

3. Low chignon. A chignon is bang on trend and does business chic with softness. Frederic Fekkai, Celebrity Hair Stylist, tells us how: “A chic chignon is easy and elegant. Part hair on the side and gather into low, loose ponytail. Twist the gathered hair into a loop around the index finger and pull the loop up gently toward the top of your head. Secure bun with hairpins and spray with Frederic Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray. Pull out some of the ends and finger through a smoothing paste for frizz-free texture. We love: Aveda Control Paste, $49.95, www.aveda.com.au With organic flaxseed this leaves hair pliable, low sheen and texturised.

Eco-hairspray: If you want your mane to stay put until clock off hairspray is essential. A good natural option is non-aerosol Organic Connect Finale Hairspray, $16.50, www.organiccoloursystems.com.au
