Mayor of the City of Stonnington | Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway | Fashion Industry Forum

I live in the City of Stonnington and first got to meet the Mayor, Cr Melina Sehr, earlier this year when I photographed her as part of the Mission 65 fashion event. It is my honour to feature Cr Sehr on Business Chic today to help promote the Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway; a series of events to showcase the talents of leading designers, fashion brands and emerging designers who have grown their businesses in what Cr Sehr terms, the city of style.

Cr Melina Sehr

Cr Sehr’s business chic ensemble features details that indicate an eye for all things stylish. I interviewed Cr Sehr to find out more about Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway and her tips for BusiChics! Read on:

How did the idea for Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway come about?
Stonnington is a city of style with 26 different retail precincts; this is an intiative to showcase our local talent. This includes designers who started in Stonnington and have risen to greater heights; often still choosing to keep their businesses in the area but just in a different retail precinct, for example moving from Greville Street to Chapel Street.

What events in the Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway are you looking forward to, in particular?
I love clothes so I am really looking forward to the runway show as well as inducting new members into the Fashion Hall of Fame which is going into its 10th year! I am always in awe of fashion designers making a name for themselves because there are so many skills you need to have in order to be successful. These events also bring the community together to see the talent of what designers and businesses have to offer!

You are a professional woman and a mother of three boys, what is your secret?
I think it’s really important to put time into your diary to look after yourself, otherwise other people will put in time for their own interests so you have to get in first. Actually that advice was given to me by a senior person in IBM and I’ve found it to be really sound advice and use it myself.

And finally, as the mayor of the stylish city of Stonnington, any style advice for BusiChics?
Be stylish but look for comfort. Take the time to find clothing that you are comfortable with. You can wear high heels if you want to and there are brands out there who do high heels that are comfortable. My shoes are by Wittner and they are high but most importantly I’m comfortable which is important because I have to run around a lot!

Thank you Cr Sehr for your time and we hope to see you during the Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway!
