Network: Melbourne Writers Club

In this BusinessChic series, I’ll be sharing the various networking events that I attend to further my interests both professionally and personally.

The Melbourne Writers’ Club was established by Sandi Sieger (whose own summery business chic style I’ve featured previously on BusinessChic) in January 2011 with the aim of,

“An engaging, supportive place for writers to gather, enjoy a meal and a glass of wine, network, share ideas and stories and keep up to date with industry news”

This meet-up is open to writers at all stages and is also just an interesting way to find out more about writing as a profession.

Last year I attended an event where writer and editor, Nicole Haddow, was the guest speaker who opened proceedings by talking about how she started her writing career.

Nicole Haddow speaks at the Melbourne Writers' Club

Haddow spoke about her writing career to date which set the tone for networking drinks that followed after.

I’d sum up Nicole’s tips for budding writers by saying, “write about what no-one else is writing about.” Sounds simple but let me tell you that it’s best to come in person to hear great stories like Haddow’s!

Melbourne Writers Club is held at 6pm on the first Monday of every month at Honey Bar and Restaurant in South Melbourne. Hope to see some of you there, tonight!
