Summer and Fringe Food at My Mexican Cousin

My boss assures me that the weather will start heating up towards the end of next week or at least the week after and I can vouch that he is a reliable alternate source for when I don’t have time to BOM or ask Siri. So today’s business chic look is a very summery one that I captured after work, right before a certain Fringe Food Festival event was getting started. I hope that it’ll provide the ladies with some inspiration for what to wear to work in hot weather!

@melbgastronome Claire - a perfect ensemble for desk-to-drinks.

I love Claire’s summer frock that makes for uber lovely Smart Casual that is perfect for after work events! Claire is also a fantabulous food blogger, whose delicious adventures I’d been following for sometime before finally getting to meet her IRL! Here are the details on Claire’s BusiChic ensemble and her answers to a rather important question for folks feelin’ hungry in the CBD!

The dress is Leona Edmiston, the espadrilles are Daniela Polo, the bag is Mimco, the watch is an Alessi Record, the ring is an antique that my mother gave me and the earrings are Bouvier. Earrings anecdote: a few years ago I lost one of the earrings and I was devastated because they are my Melbourne Gastronome signature earrings. Happily, Bouvier said that if I sent the remaining orphan earring to their studio in Sydney they’d make it a new twin – and they did!

Lunch venues in the city? I work up at the Paris end of the CBD (sadly several blocks from my beloved EARL Canteen), so nearby lunchtime favourites include Lupino, Von Haus, Mamasita or Japanese newcomer Kokoro Ramen. If I’m pressed for time I’ll grab a bánh mì from N Lee Bakery or a salad from Famish’d.

Thanks for your details, Claire – and allowing me to finally feature you here 😉

Jess aka @BurgerMary and SJ of @essjayeff and one of the co-organisers of Fringe Food

Now some of you might be wondering about the Fringe Food Festival event that I attended, by myself. The thing that I like about events like this one is that while great with friends, they’re still just as awesome if you go on your lonesome. Inevitably you’ll be seated with people who also have an interest in delicious which in my books, makes for good conversation and potentially new friends. Oh and the food – a great way to explore what the knowledgeable founders Ed from Tomatom, SJ from Essjayeats, Kitka and Mellie and Danny from TummyRumbles have decided to feature. The evening I attended was hosted by the super-energetic and downright awesome Jess of Burger Mary who I understand guided My Mexican Cousin to creolean cuisine.

It all started with this refreshing gin-based cocktail...

Now I am not a food blogger but all in all the evening was heaps of fun and if there’s one thing I’d return to My Mexican Cousin for, it’d be the ‘Po Boy which consisted of the most magicallly deep fried prawns in the most golden of rolls – perfect for lunchtimes 😉

Deep fried shrimp in a roll at My Mexican Cousin; oh Bubba!

The next event that Jess of Burger Mary is holding is a Texas BBQ! Her first event with Fringe Food has sold out but she’s putting on two more: details HERE!
