Week 35: LBD goes to the Sommeliers’ Ball

In week 35 of the Little Black Dress (LBD) Project, I find myself at the Sommelier’s Ball where the theme was Masquerade. here’s how I accessorised quick-bang!

Happy Friday, BusiChic!

It’s that time of the week for socialising, impromptu invites and subsequent “OMG WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR” conundrums. I had one recently myself when the fabulous Lou Pardi invited me to the Sommeliers’ Ball, that same evening.

Sommeliers’ Australia is an association for industry and passionate consumers who believe in supporting the strength and standing of sommeliers as a profession. “Sommelier” ~ a specialist trained and knowledgeable in all facets of beverage service aka the person you can consult to help match your meal to your wine – a good one makes all the difference!

So I was pretty much rocking up to a work event; albeit a glam one mind you with great food and oh my, the beverages! With a dresscode of black tie & masquerade I needed an outfit that was dressed up without OTT. So enter, the Little Black Dress!

Firstly, my inspiration:

My goodness, costume designer Edith Head did good work styling Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Check out these masks – inspiration’s for this week’s styling of a LBD for a work function! Images from fabaudrey.com

Week 35: Inspired again by Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a quick accessorising of the LBD gets me over the line to the Sommeliers’ Ball!

As someone who likes to “see people”, I prefer to wear masks in a messy up-do a-la-Holly-Golightly, which I do need to work on making a tad neater! Thanks Tim for loan of the mask; I’ve added a bit more glam through the vintage sequin shell top I bought at American Rag and blinged up with a bold cuff gifted to me by The Iconic and tied in the blue colour with a bangle that I bought on a holiday in KL. Dress that I’m using in this project is by Bento and shoes from ziera.

Now back to the work event. Being an industry event, I can say that hands-down the fare was the best ball-food I’ve had ever. I’ve just spent half an hour trying to find the menu that I was saving so that I could pay proper tribute to the Cutler & Co chef who did very good sticky-slow-cooking things with steak and the other chef who made a lovely fresh dessert using herbs in unusual ways – a perfect way to end the meal. If anyone has the details, please share!

Noisy happy snaps from the ball + the chefs take a bow – bravo!

Every ball has its awards and the sommeliers’ was not different, congratulations to those who were awarded the following:

Victorian Importer of the Year
Bibendum

Victorian Local Wholesaler of the Year:
CellarHand

Victorian Sales Representative of the Year:
Susannah Lavery [#StockOnHand]

Victorian Winery of the Year
Jamsheed

So that’s how I styled the Little Black Dress for a work function! Have you styled your own LBD for one recently? How did you do it?
