Week 38: LBD plays with LEGO

In Week 38 of the Little Black Dress (LBD) Project, I attend a cocktail soiree at one of my favourite vintage stores and pretty up my ensemble with a LEGO Brick Pencil Case that I’ve been using as a clutch!

Happy Friday BusiChic!

Hi-fives to all who’ve made it, especially to particularly hard-working Melburnians who would have had a rather short work-week. Hurrah!

In celebration, I’d like to share with you some images from an evening where I visited the crew at American Rag in their QV store for a fun soiree of dress-ups and catching up.

Me with American Rag’s Eileen Carny and Calum at a soiree held in the QV store.

Some images of the awesome American Rag crew that I shared on my personal Instagram which I try to keep separate from the strictly work-related BusinessChic Instagram account!

Long-time BusiChics may have seen that I incorporate quite a bit of vintage into my own workwear, lots of which I’ve bought from Eileen and her fabulous crew. Eileen sources 10 tonnes of quality second-hand clothing from the US each year and let me tell you, the lady has an eye for finding the right dress to fit you and your needs. More than that however, Eileen and wonderful Calum and Jane whom I’ve dealt with too many times to count over the years, are like trusted friends. Not only do they provide most excellent counsel on all things like love and career but they also push me to try on things that end up becoming new favourites. Dangerous! If you’d like to read more about Eileen, I highly recommend this article on Broadsheet.

Follow American Rag on Facebook and Twitter.

Ok now onto how I styled my LBD for work and play with the American Rag crew!

Week 38: I get my LBD event ready by accessorising with colourful and quirky accessories like this Lego Brick Pencil case which I use as a clutch and Gorman sandals.

It was a warm day when I set out in my LBD for the office. Sadly as an orthotic-wearing fashionista-wannabe, I can no longer wear my favourite open-toe patent black leather pumps (can I name drop? They’re Marc Jacobs and super cute!).  So when looking for summer footwear, I need something that is quite wide – narrow shoes do not provide the support I need. For that matter, if you see women walking down the street in heels and shaky ankles, it’s likely that their shoes aren’t supporting them properly either but I digress! I found these brightly coloured sandals at the Gorman outlet store on Bridge Road. They’re a little bit too casual to wear with a dress to work but I’ve a feeling they’ll be cute under a cropped work pant – I’ll keep you posted.

The key accessory that ties in the colourful shoes to my LBD is the LEGO Brick Pencil case which which I bought at Officeworks! I’ve been on the look-out for a clutch that wasn’t black/gold/cream and would fit my iPhone with space for a lipgloss and cards. Take a look to see how the LEGO has delightfully met my needs!:

I had a number of people enquire when I first shared images of my new clutch on Instagram. So I’m having a play with affiliate links which means that if I recommend a product I love and share a link so that you can buy it, I get a commission (rates vary from online store to store). For example, want a Lego Brick Pencil Case of your own? Buy it here on Amazon!
My own clutch is pretty easy to “clutch”, however if you’re looking for something larger to say, store things on your desk, then check out this goodness:

AMAZEBALLS! Sadly, STORE UK do not ship these amazing LEGO storage boxes to Australia. Anyone know who’s stocking these in Oz? I need to!

What do you think of my pencil case style?

  1. did some sleuthing and I believe that the hard case lego box in the UK site is also the same one found here in the container store for those in the US & canada (don’t know if they do international shipping for other countries)

  2. The lego pencil case is amazing! I totally want one! xx
