Barbie is Moving, LBD Project giveaway and Packing for Bali

Greetings BusiChic,

I hope that yours was a great weekend!

My weekend involved my boyfriend's Caddyshack-themed party. Here we are in costume with chocolate golf balls I bought from Ganache Chocolates- artisan chocolate makers right in the heart of South Yarra!

I know that mine was – it involved catching up with friends over a round of mini-golf on the course that my boyfriend built in his hallway for a Caddyshack-themed party! Much fun although, I then spent the beautiful part of Sunday trying to recover before venturing out just as the rains hit!

So today’s post is one that I should *really* split into 3 separate posts but I kinda really needed them all to go out today so brace yourself for a big post featuring Barbie, The LBD Project and my upcoming holiday to Bali!

1. Barbie is Moving!

One of my favourite dolls, Barbie, visited Melbourne - love your Little Black Dress style, Barbie!

I know that I cannot speak for everyone but I had a really great relationship with my Barbie, until I cut her hair and stuck it on my own, thinking that it’d make me like the other kids at school… Anyhow, I was really excited when one day at work, I took delivery of a brand new Barbie doll with long hair and lashes (Barbie’s since had a makeover of her own it seems) – it was like we’d have a chance to rekindle our friendship. Hurrah!

Turns out that Barbie has sold her house in Malibu and travelling the world to see where she might like to live. She was in Australia for Fashion Week (where she sat front row at Camilla and Marc in a custom design- that lucky doll!) but spent some time in Melbourne with me and my friends. Here’s what we got upto:

  1. What a nice surprise, I receive Barbie mail at work – my favourite doll tells me that she’s going to pay me a visit!
  2. Barbie arrives at my workplace in her party frock – she waits rather impatiently for me to finish up by pointing out my Kikki.K inspirational quote.
  3. Finally we go for drinks at East of Everything in Camberwell
  4. Dinner is at David’s in Prahran. Barbie likes the steamed pork dumplings but wonders why the whole menu is in English as she thinks that Melburnians would be  pretty accustomed to asking for xiao long bao?
  5. The next day, we’re feeling a little dusty. Here Barbie nurses a coffee from Ganache Chocoloate as we make our way to the Lisa Barron store (1/1031 High St Armadale / 9824 7600) to join a tour of the city of Stonnington as part of the Discover Your Own Backyard campaign. Lisa is pretty inspiring – stay tuned for our interview with her coming up on the blog soon!
  6. But earlier, Barbie stops by Frankie & Swiss with me to drop off a copy of The Little Black Dress Project Book for the Creative Women’s Circle! The fabulous fashion illustrator of our book, Angie Rehe, is the keynote speaker and we’re proudly sponsoring a copy of the book that was given away to one lucky attendant!
  7. We’d missed breakfast so dig into a hearty lunch of baby back ribs and the amazing curly fries I love so much at Parlour Diner (64 Chapel Street, Windsor /9533 2006)
  8. Barbie the fare evader. Poor doll had been so excited about coming to Melbourne that she’d bought a Metcard earlier, only to arrive and find out that they’ve been replaced with myki!
  9. Barbie is the champagne party girl and celebrates a lovely afternoon in Melbourne with champagne at The Lyall (16 Murphy Street, South Yarra /9868 8222).

Thanks for dropping by Barbie!

Thank you Gun Communications for sending me Barbie and Sarah Kempson-of-many-wondrous-things for hosting us on the Discover Your Own Backyard tour of my city of Stonnington!

keep calm we're going on a holiday

My brain has been positively struggling trying to string words together and stuff so I’m going to Bali for a much-needed holiday.  I’ve received a Bali Secrets deck of cards to help make it easy to work out where to go out in Bali.

Also I’m looking forward to sitting by the pool and devouring some upcoming books that the kind folk at Penguin have sent me to review. Did you know that Penguin have a newsletter to keep you in the know on all of their upcoming books? I just found that out and will be recommending anyone who loves reading like I do, to sign up too! Bali photos taken from here.

I’m also looking forward to hitting up my local newsagents this week as the new magazines come out. Have you read anything lately that you’d recommend I check out?
