Business Chic Interview: Entrepreneur Michael Fox at Shoes of Prey

Greetings  BusoChico,

Welcome to the mid-week spot of workwear inspiration!

Following on from Monday’s interview with Jodie Fox of online custom-shoe-designer-retailer, Shoes of Prey and prescription glasses site Sneaking Duck, I’m pleased to feature her co-founder, Michael.

Michael’s styled-up take on Smart Casual  shows how jeans can be smartened up for work with a blazer, layering and a few accessories.

Vintage pennies make great uni-sex cufflinks – must remember to follow up and ask Michael where he got these ones from!

1. Thoughts on the power suit – is it appropriate for aspiring web entrepreneurs?

Personally I wouldn’t wear it day-to-day, but I had a beautiful black suit tailored in Bangkok that is fun to pull out occasionally.

2. Favourite magazines, books, websites, blogs that inspire you?

I loved the recent biography on Steve Jobs. In terms of blogs some of my favourites include the blog by SEOMOZ founder Rand Fishkin, Fred Wilson, a US VCs blog – and the 37 Signals blog I blog about the business side of Shoes of Prey at

3. How long should it take to get dressed for work?

I recently moved into a warehouse style apartment in Surry Hills and one of the things I love about it is my wardrobe is basically a horizontal pole between two posts in my bedroom and it’s completely open. I have all my clothes on hangers in colour order so choosing an outfit each day is a breeze, no more than 5mins to choose what to wear and get dressed!

4. Skincare/cosmetics for the workplace?

Face moisturiser is it for me.  🙂

5. Business travel tips/ things they pack for business travel.

A good book.
Thanks Michael!
Over on the Business Chic Facebook page, Elanne and Michelle added some of their own business travel tips – I’d love to hear if y0u have your own that you can share!
Thanks to the team at Shoes of Prey for the tour of their new office space. A very interesting look into a business I admire and darn it, I’ve been enticed and have just jumped on to design my own *perfect work shoes* starting with this Gatsby-inspired pair for walking to work!
