What the designers wore: Fall Couture 2014

If I were to go to fashion week, I’d really want to photograph the designers themselves.

The Couture shows are seen as being the height of creativity and technique. The designers are responsible for tapping into the collective imagination to draw out desires and create looks that compel us to buy something new; to re-think fashion in a new way; to be inspired.

Luckily for me Style.com photographs most designers who take a bow at the close of their shows. Here is a look at some of the designers, their collections and what they wore to present their work for the season, Autumn Couture 2014:

Responsible for some of the frothiest, floatiest and dreamiest of dresses, Valentino designers are a united vision in forest green and navy. Maria Grazia Chiuri wears an avantgarde frock (perfect for Autumn come to think of it, simply pair with shoes from ALPHA60 to create a Contemporary Business Wear look!) and Pierpaolo Piccioli rocks a suit in a tailored shape.

Karl Lagerfeld's personal style has become iconic - the fingerless gloves, a tailored shoulder, that coiffed 'do.

Giambattista Valli channels Steve Jobs in his minimal but chic black knit, jeans and sneakers – at the close of his show – one of my favourites this season for the eclectic girl…who doesn’t work, see it here on Style.com!

What do you think of the outfits that designers wear when they present their looks? Any favourites from the Autumn Couture shows?

  1. I love to check out what the designers wear as well. I always think it gives a fascinating insight into their creative vision.

    • Fascinating isn’t it, Spencer?

Often I think that the designers dress quite “normally” relative to their creative visions which reminds me of a quote from the writer, Flaubert, “Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.”
