The Glamourista – Melissa Polglase

I can’t quite remember how I first started following Melissa, aka The Glamourista on instagram. However I do recall starting to see photos of her creative BusiChic style on Instagram and simply had to set up an appointment to photograph her! melissa polglase office style

In my continuing quest to find stylish outfits that are as comfortable as PJs (!) I think that Melissa has nailed the brief on the head with her “twosie”! The bold prints and daring style are perfect for Melissa’s role a Marketing Manager of a retail precinct.
Your favourite brands for workwear? I love classic pieces that are cut well and in quality fabric (I tend to look for natural fibres like cotton, wool or silk) that will last a couple of seasons. I will also splash out on a few directional items each season (like the “twosie” you photographed me in!). I have a lot of Country Road, Witchery, Cue, Seed, Gorman & Feathers in my wardrobe right now. Accessories are my first love, and I’ve been a Mimco devotee for as long as I can remember. When I’m not wearing a statement/directional outfit, my look is almost always a classic base with a statement necklace. I don’t really differentiate between my work and weekend wardrobes too much. Working in a retail marketing role allows me a great freedom to express my creative side and take inspiration from the amazing fashion retailers i get to work with without worrying about looking corporate.
Your favourite blogs, sites, mags and books to keep your finger on the pulse? Blogs I love right now include Lady Melbourne, Garance Dore, Faux Fuchsia, The Coveteur and The Man Repeller. I am also addicted to flicking through the endless galleries on I have been a subscriber to Harpers Bazaar since I was 16 years and still get excited when it lands on my doorstep each month. I’ve also been loving Australian Elle Magazine since it launched. I take a lot of inspiration from retail. As my job involves spending so much time in the mall, and in stores, I feel I am always immersed in what’s new and exciting which is a great inspiration every day.
What do you look for in a good work shoe? Who are your go-to brands? A good work shoe has to have? Leather upper AND lining are non-negotiable, and a leather sole is a lovely luxury to add to that checklist. I’m out in the mall a lot, so I look for heels that are not too high (max. 7cm) as I know I can run from meeting to meeting or stand at an event all day on the unforgiving  terazzo floors without thinking about my feet! I usually decide on my outfit for the day starting with accessories, so having shoes in a range of colours and style makes it easy to create different looks. I believe that toes are not for the office – my work shoes are always pumps. I have quite big feet (Size 41/42) which can be a little restrictive, so I love Mimco, Witchery, Country Road, Gorman and Wittner as they tick all the boxes around being leather, seasonal styling and having shoes in a mid heel height, plus I can usually get my size!
Polished hair and make-up with a fashionable edge further differentiates Melissa’s work look, here she kindly shares the details of the products in her make up kit:
