The Target Designer Fashion Collaboration Office Fashionistas Need to Know About

Is it just me or is Target is on fire with its designer collaborations? Locally it has collaborations with Dannii Minogue PETITES (in stores and online now, click that link for my review of the work-appropriate pieces) and upcoming launch with Italian fashion house, Missoni, scheduled for October 8.

However as an office fashionista there is another collaboration that has me very, very excited – Joseph Altuzarra’s collaboration with Target USA will be released on September 14.

Normally this means that international shoppers like ourselves will be forced to try our luck on eBay where some sellers will list items for double the recommended retail price… However this time round, a selection of pieces will be available for purchase via luxury online e-tailer, net-a-porter! Genius.

What you need to know about Joseph Altuzarra

Joseph Altuzarra won the U.S. Final of the Prestigious Woolmark Prize for this tailored blush number. So chic.

Altuzarra has made a name for himself amongst the fashion set for his silhouette that celebrates the female form. His clothes are form-fitting and feature flashes of skin; a plunging neckline or an aggressive-but-perfectly-placed high slash at the thigh. Personally I’ve pinned his looks showing how to sexy-up blazers with a scarf.  His looks are as perfectly tailored as they are undeniably sexy and balanced so that they are as restrained as they are empowering; emboldening even. Altuzarra’s collections have set him apart from his peers but he achieved industry-wide recognition last year when he won the prestigious Woolmark Prize- previous recipients include Karl Lagerfeld. And just last Monday Altuzarra took out the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award – BAM! Now his collaboration with Target is set to make him a household name. And I hope so because he is talented, seems to work very hard and in interviews I’ve read, comes across as a balance of humility and quiet ambition…

The BusinessChic pieces you need

The 80-strong piece collection will be priced between $18 and $90 and available online through Target USA and selected items internationally through Net-a-porter on September 14.

Featuring amped up versions of your work-robe staples, here is the Business Chic edit of the Altuzarra for Target Designer Collection:

Keep an eye out for Altuzarra’s treatment of the classics: the tuxedo blazer, the sharp pant, beautifully cuffed shirts and the flared trench coat and a-line skirts – and make sure to cinch things in with his corset belt. That said… there are some pieces to steer clear of lest you have a “get out of jail free” card with the office fashion police.

How Altuzarra could get you in trouble with the Fashion Police:

I’ve mentioned it above, Altuzarra is favoured by the likes of Carine Roitfeld (who is SO sexy) for his snugly cut skirts that are slashed to the thigh. The look is “I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROARRRR” which can be a little bit much for the conservative workplace. So here is a look at the pieces in the collection that could get you in trouble:

DO the tops pictured here but MIND THE GAP -some of the looks from Joseph Altuzarra’s collaboration with Target set for September 14.

Altuzarra provides tips on how to manouvre his skirts when descending from a taxi; hand over slit and pivot. If you are likely to be carrying a bunch of files, laptop and handbag as well – you might want to save this skirt for evening’s out when all you are carrying is a little clutch!

What do you think of the Altuzurra for Target collection?

  1. Hi! I am SO grateful that you let us know about Net-a-Porter! I had already checked out the Target US site, and was super disappointed I wasn’t able to purchase.
I have diarised the start of the sale and have my eye on the peplum blazer, the python pencil skirt and the polka dot blouse!

    • Barbe, I’m so pleased that this post was helpful to you! Great picks – I think that polka dot blouse is a great tran-seasonal piece that you will get so much wear out of – it’s so good for layering and adding texture to outfits. But I bet you thought of that already 🙂
