On the team

Greetings BusiChic,

It’s the final post for the year and while I’m running around town photographing folks so that there’ll be a fresh lot of BusiChic street style inspiration for you from January 5, 2015 – here’s a look at all of the teams I’ve been a part of this year.

It’s been my first year out of corporate and one of my worries was that without having a team of people to connect with on a daily basis, I might fall off the planet. So you can imagine how great it has been for me to be part of these communities. As you will see, each of these communities is run by some very good operators –  people I am inspired by on so many levels – so it has been such an honour to gain insight into the behind-the-scene machinations of some of my favourite enterprises. And on an individual note, it’s been really nice to feel like I can be part of great teams making some wonderful things happen. Take a look!

Bridal Parties

No matter how lowkey you think you want to have a wedding – I learnt firsthand this year that it takes a VILLAGE to get things done! And goodness, isn’t a wedding the ultimate pressure chamber for a team!? It requires a clear vision, professionalism, resourcefulness and not to mention a competent team who can communicate clearly, deal effectively with conflict, wear the uniform without drama and get things done to budget.

It was an honour to be by my brother’s side as he married Hannah of Hannmaid in a gorgeous ceremony in Bali in March of this year. When it came to our own nuptials in April (you can see pics here and video here), Tim and I were a little more DIY and I am so grateful to our family and friends for setting up and packing down everything for us. So it was such a pleasure to pay the favour forward and help some friends get married last weekend- yay weddings!

And when all is said and done, I love this piece by Marina Go, “How to find a life partner for career success”

Melbourne in Fashion

Me and Meagan Harding of Style Farm – the faces to the voices behind the Melbourne in Fashion podcast!

I could say lots about Meagan Harding – stylist and photographer – but I think you should follow her work yourself to see just how talented and wonderful she is! Big loves, Meagan!

Australian Writers’ Centre

With Australian Writers’ Centre National Director, Valerie Khoo, and the awesome Liz Pulos at a Business Chicks event earlier this year.

I’ve so enjoyed presenting the Blogging for Beginners course for the Australian Writers’ Centre this year. In Melbourne we are based out of the Abbotsford Convent and every time I rock up, I feel so grateful to get to work out of such a great venue!

The NAB Village

the village members

Celebrating the first birthday of The Village run by nab. Here I am with fellow member Jane and space host Tim Mahlberg.

If you work from home, I think it’s really important to have a co-working space that you can show up to periodically and conduct your business amongst other professionals.  The Village is run by nab and free to use for business account holders. The space is hosted by the most excellent Tim Mahlberg and Jenelynn Klopp – I can’t speak highly enough about what they do to make this space feel like a great community to be a part of. Thanks guys!

The ProBlogger conference is THE bloggers’ conference to attend in Australia although I am biased because I love being on the team!

The Design Files Open House

I have already written some posts about my time working on the 2014 Open House run by the brilliant Lucy and Lisa at The Design Files. And I’ve already received a few emails about this, this morning (thanks guys!) but you can see me in the gorgeous video made by the talented Paris of SIRAP, check it out here.

So what’s next? Inspired by the above operators, I am working on creating some consistent content that actually goes live at 7am each morning, rather than my mad scrambles each day. Most of the teams mentioned above are just that – teams – and I’m realising that what I am trying to do takes a lot of work so in 2015 I will be looking to assemble a team of contributors to help me do just that. If you are interested in being part of the team in any way, shape or form, feel free to drop me a line at cheryl[at]businesschic[dot]com[dot]au. Blogging has helped me transform my life and so if you’re thinking of dipping your toe in, I’d be glad to share what I know. In the meantime, please provide me with feedback! I’d love to hear from you so that I can make sure that 2015 is the most consistently useful year for BusinessChic as we turn five years-old!
