Giveaway: Uniqlo Premium Linen

Note: This giveaway closed on 25/09/15 at 5pm AEST. Thank you to all who entered!

Fashion land is having a playful moment where traditionally stiff and structured pieces of clothing like blazers and shirts are being realised in more relaxed fabrics and prints.

UNIQLO is one such brand, having just released its Premium Linen range made of 100% French linen; perfect timing for Spring/Summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The range is a god-send for Business Casual dressers wishing to look smart but feel cool in the coming warmer weather.

Effortless chic: UNIQLO sent me pieces from its Premium Linen range for a test run.

Working UNIQLO Premium Linen

Business Casual is a more business-y version of Smart Casual. Shirts should have collars for men while women have a little more freedom which can be wonderful or a little more difficult to navigate.

This week I’ve been test-driving some pieces from UNIQLO’s new range to create three different looks to inspire your Casual Friday. Have a look:

busichic uniqlo premium linen blazer

I always like to dress up even on Casual Fridays. I could have paired this blazer with jeans but in Summer I prefer wearing skirts. A linen blazer provides the requisite amount of formality for work so that you look polished but a little more relaxed because it’s Friday y’all.

busichic uniqlo premium linen striped sweater

Working from home? My uniform these days is a striped top with some relaxed black pants and a pair of statement earrings to remind myself to sit up straight and work it! When popping out for coffee, I try to put on some *nice* shoes otherwise it’s easy to spend the whole day in slippers or sneakers. Not that there is anything wrong with wearing sneakers all day (it’s probably better for feet!) but otherwise I feel like I get less of a chance to wear nice shoes!

busichic uniqlo premium linen oxford stripe shirt

See what I said about striped tops being my work-from-home default? When I worked in Corporate I rarely wore shirts because mine were cotton and felt too stiff. The beauty with linen is that they work best when allowed to wrinkle and mold to one’s body which means – greater comfort AND no ironing required. Amazing!

If like me you like your structured pieces a little undone, twist then knot your shirt like I’ve done here to get it properly rumpled. I find it’s then easier to roll up and bunch sleeves at the elbow and have the collar gape nicely at the collar bone.

Note: This giveaway to win one of TWO $250 AUD vouchers closed on 25/09/15 at 5pm AEST. Thank you to all who entered!

The Premium Linen blazer retails for $99.90, the Oxford shirt for $49.90 and the Striped Sweater $49.90 leaving you enough for either some bottoms or accessories.

I have long been desperate for stylish, professional work wear that is comfortable to wear in the Summer! I think linen would be a great fabric to get through our more humid months.

  2. I love UNIQLO, their separates are very resourceful. Hope all is well with you at NZ!

  3. Oh Uniqlo’s fab! I bought some printed viscose pants from there last year and ended up taking them to NZ on a whim – boy was I glad I did, I wore them nearly every day! Great post and very timely for me; I’m starting a corporate job next year and all of these looks would be perfect for casual Fridays 🙂

  4. I’ve been working at home from the Masai Mara game reserve, Kenya for last 7 years! I can’t even describe my attire to you! hehe We are back to Australia to live in three weeks!! So will definitely need to spend some time re-vamping the work wear wardrobe. Will be stopping in to Uniqlo on my way through Sydney! Beautiful pieces & great prices!

  5. I love how versatile these shirts are and how easy they are to wear. They look great! I want to own one of every colour:)

  6. UNIQLO has some of the best staples to have in any wardrobe. The cotton is amazing and the clothing washes so well. Look forward to my next shopping trip.

  7. ooh I was just looking at stripes on Bourke St today! Uniqlo will have to go on my list. Stripes + no ironing = perfect work and casual attire 🙂

  8. I absolutely adore Uniqlo! It really is no-stress dressing. I guess that one day they will make it to Adelaide, but until then I have to be content with shopping online or stocking up whenever I travel to a place with a Uniqlo store. Thanks for the tip about knotting the linen shirt. No ironing means even less stress!

  9. love the blazers…

  10. Love these pieces!

  11. I ADORE Uniqlo, I think I have every item of Light Weight Down they ever made – it is brilliant for travel. I also have some of their stripe cotton tops, my boys and husband wear their chinos. A trip to Uniqlo flagship store in Tokyo was a trip highlight last year (and I am going to be going back again in December – yipee). So thrilled they have now got a premium linen range, particularly like the Blazer you are wearing. Fingers crossed…x

  12. Uniqlo offers beautiful, comfortable separates that can be styled up or down, and worn with more directional fashion pieces for a classic edge. What more could one ask for? The ultimate clothing brand for everyone! – Nico

  13. Oh how I love linen! Such a great post Cheryl. Stripey top is a.

  14. Loved this post… I work 3 days in an office and the rest of the time from home, so just what I wanted to read.
Fingers crossed for the voucher 🙂

  15. Always love good quality basics that can be dressed up, down and thrown into a holiday bag 🙂 Uniqlo ftw!

  16. I’ve just started placement in a new setting and I’ve been struggling to find the right clothing (professional without being too formal). I think this uniqlo range has nailed it for me! Just what I was looking for – thank you. Also, love the photo of how to knot the shirt and save on ironing!

  17. I’ve recently started a new job that’s business casual which I’m struggling to find my style in. Also I have some business travel planned soon and these shirts look like they’re exactly what I need to be business appropriate and will pack well. Perfect!

  18. I’ve been told by a friend in fashion that Uniqlo’s button-downs (as we Americans say) are divine. Looking forward to finding a shirt that doesn’t gape across the bust like so many others — hence why I own zero buttondowns.

  19. I’ve heard great things about UniQlo, but we don’t have one here and I’m hesitant to spend that much buying sight unseen.

  20. UniQlo is the best for staples! I’ve been living in my vest, which made my boss go and buy one too! I’m keen to get some new shirts to revamp my wardrobe.

  21. Oooh, I’ve been looking for some good shirts for my November trip up to HQ… Pyjamas don’t cut it in the office. Will have to check Uniqlo out!

  22. I’ve been meaning to get myself some of those UNIQLO no-iron shirts you were telling me about Chez. Gotta be in it to win it! x

  23. Fleur Chesterman says

Have got my man addicted to Uniqlo linen now, he has never looked smarter and it’s so easy to get him to the shop when he knows it a one stop deal #uniqlo #youknow

  24. Could this be what Novak Djokovic wears when he’s not wearing Uniqlo sports wear? It’s smart enough for a true champion!

  25. I’d love to add some great Uniqlo linen pieces to my summer wardrobe. Thanks for the opportunity.

  26. I love wearing linen in summer – so much more comfortable

  27. I’m just starting to get into uniqlo, and I must say, I can’t believe it’s taken this long for me to find – it’s just my style. I would love to try some items from the linen range for Business Casual workdays!

  28. I love the linen shirts from uniqlo! I have one of them and it really makes the biggest differences in the summer! Hope all is well in nz!

  29. Whoo hoo! Uniqlo is awesome. Both my husband and I have almost exclusively Uniqlo for casual/around the house stuff, it would be awesome to see what the “professional” type stuff would be like.

    • I must say that I have been tempted by Uniqlo’s “room pants” in the past 😀

I work between home and various workspaces these days and often find that tweaks to my “Premium Linen” wardrobe can be as simple as a change of shoes – I look forward to hearing what you think!

  30. I love uniqlo’s linen shirts! Bikini, linen shirt, cotton sarong and a silk dress are all the clothes I pack for a north qld holiday, its the only way to be comfortable and look good in all that tropical heat. I’m looking forward to your styling posts.

  31. Great giveaway! Hope all is well with you in NZ!

  32. Uniqlo is the best! So glad I can buy it locally now.

  33. If I win, a trip to Uniqlo is going to be the first stop on my Treat Yourself Day.

  34. I don’t think I can think of anything better than being rewarded with beautiful linen threads after a wooly, wooly, wild winter.
    Unicolor says spring to me!!

  35. Melanie Moran says

My cousins just adore Uniqlo, and flew from Brisbane to Melbourne for a Uniqlo shopping spree! I just love the styles and gorgeous fabrics. Time for me to keep up with the Jones’s….or Moran’s!!

  36. I’ve never bought anything from uniqlo before but literally everyone is telling me to buy one of their down jackets for my trip to NYC!

This linen gear is so beautiful- love linen clothing!
